UPDATE: CHIEFS ANNOUNCE 8 PLAYERS TO PRACTICE SQUAD

Updates on the Kansas City Chiefs roster cuts, waiver wire claims and practice squad. These are all unofficial until the Chiefs formally announce them, which could come some time on Sunday. Any additions the Chiefs make to the active roster will have to be reflected with the release of a player.

Breaking: Alex Smith gets 4-year contract extension from Chiefs

Any news, rumors or updates will be below.

DL Damion Square was one of the Eagles 2013 UDFAs out of Alabama. He dressed for 10 games last year and recorded five tackles. MIke Kaye from Bleeding Green Nation says, "Probably the best defensive player the Eagles cut. Much better than most fans would give him credit for. Good special teamer, too." BGN's Brandon Lee Gowton calls his release a "numbers crunch".

LB Jerry Franklin was a 2012 UDFA for the Broncos, who also played for the Panthers, Cowboys and Bears. He now plays for former Bears special teams coach Dave Toub.

Schwenke was one of the Chiefs UDFAs this year out of Notre Dame.

FB Jordan Campbell was cut by the Chiefs on Saturday. I am guessing this means he was added to the practice squad though I'm not sure.

WR Fred Williams was a Chiefs UDFA.

WR Darryl Surgent was a Chiefs UDFA.

G Ricky Henry was a mild surprise cut on Saturday. Plenty of people had him on their 53-man roster. He's back o the practice squad.

Like Henry, S Malcolm Bronson was on some 53-man roster predictions. We'll see what happens here.

It was a surprise TE Richard Gordon was kept on the 53-man roster. He could come back.

RB Charcandrick West was a Chiefs UDFA.

See all the Chiefs Saturday roster cuts here and read 10 things to know about them. The Chiefs are the 23rd spot in the waiver wire, which means 22 teams before them would have to pass on a player before they got the player. The Chiefs will establish a 10-man practice squad on Sunday as well. Read more about the practice squad rules and eligibility here.
