Explore the overlooks of the Divisadero area in Mexico’s Copper Canyon, including the elusive Oteros Canyon overlook only possible to see with a private vehicle tour. Then stop at the Divisadero Adventure Park for an optional ride on the Cable Car, Zip Lines, or Via Ferrata. The Park also features a Eurobungy, minigolf for kids and a rock climbing wall.

All activities within the Divisadero Adventure Park are optional and you can ride them or not as you choose, paying directly to the park for whatever you choose to enjoy, and adhering to all park  age and/or height restrictions as the park dictates. The restaurant in the Park has glass walls and a section of glass floor where you can see a part of the Via Ferrata below on the canyon wall. Total tour time is roughly 8 hours.

  1. 8:00am Pickup from Creel hotel

    Please be ready and waiting in the reception area of your Creel hotel for your guide. He will be there to meet you a few minutes before your scheduled pickup time. You should choose the 8am time slot if you are starting this Copper Canyon tour in Creel and the 9am time slot if you are starting this Copper Canyon tour in Divisadero. 

  2. 8am to 9am Scenic Drive to Oteros Canyon

    Enjoy the rugged and remote scenery of the Divisadero area in Mexico’s Copper Canyon as you drive from Creel to Divisadero or vice versa.

    Starting from Creel, you will drive for approximately 1-hour to the overlook of Oteros Canyon, just outside of Divisadero, which is a train stop on the Chepe train line. This canyon is seldom seen by train passengers as it is well off the train line and can only be seen by vehicle.

     

  3. 9:30am to 10:30am Divisadero Overlook & Rim Walk

    Traveling further to Divisadero itself, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the intersection of Urique, Copper, and Tararecua Canyons (this tour can also be done from a starting point in Divisadero with end back at your hotel in Divisadero or with end in Creel if you are heading that way).

    There are many different overlooks in the area, which you will visit from some of the best angles possible. After viewing the main overlook near the train station in Divisadero, you’ll have an option to walk across a swinging bridge above a small section of the canyon, which will delight as well as terrify, and a 3kms walk along an uneven but paved trail along the rim of the canyon. Your driver will pick you up at the end of the path to continue the drive into the Adventure Park from there.

     

  4. 10:30am to 5pm Divisadero Adventure Park

    After extraordinary canyon views, stop off at the Divisadero Adventure Park where you will have the chance to ride the Cable Car into the canyon, try out the 7 traditional zip lines, ride the ZipRider (a seated zip line) or you can try out your skills on the Via Ferrata (means ‘road of iron’ and features rappeling, walking a wire, climbing the canyon wall, swinging bridges and more). The Adventure Park charges different admission prices for each activity, which are payable directly at the park depending on your own activity preferences.

    You’ll enjoy this park until 2pm if you are being dropped off at a hotel in Divisadero as the hotels include lunch.  Or you can skip lunch at the hotel if you like, and enjoy the park a bit longer buying your own lunch at the park.

    If you are catching the train in Divisadero to go onto Los Mochis, then you must be dropped off at the train station by 1pm, or a bit earlier, in case the train comes early. Please note we can leave out the Oteros Canyon view and rim walk in order to give you more time in the park itself if you are departing by train and request this. 

  5. 5pm Scenic Drive to Creel

    You’ll return to Creel at 4pm if you are going back there, or will be dropped off at your hotel in Divisadero instead if you are spending the night there at 5pm. (this tour can also be done from a starting point in Divisadero with end back at your hotel in Divisadero, or with end in Creel. You should choose the 8am time slot if you are starting the tour in Creel and the 9am time slot if you are starting the tour in Divisadero.)

    You’ll be dropped at the point you designated when booking your tour.

Layers are always best and a light jacket or rain gear during the rainy season (July through Sept.) is also prudent. The weather can change abruptly here in the canyons at these altitudes so it is best to come prepared for a bit of everything.

If you plan to ride the zip lines, do bring a warm and tight fitting jacket. You cannot wear a hat on the zip lines and will be asked to remove your jewelry as well for the traditional 7 zip lines.

This tour doesn’t allow much independent hiking, though you will have to do a bit of hiking if you choose to do the 7 traditional zip lines, or the ZipRider. There is some light walking you can do on the mesa where the cable car allows for gorgeous views of Urique Canyon. If you want to do a day tour with ample hiking opportunities, we recommend the Basaseachi Falls tour instead, in Candamena Canyon.

Yes, there is a restaurant inside the Adventure park with glass walls for a wonderful view of the canyons, or you can try the hand made gorditas at the train station.
