Arizona basketball: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson learning point guard for Wildcats

Oh please let Rondae start running point against ASU

While things have been going smoothly for the Arizona Wildcats the last three weeks, one piece of adversity has been handed to them.

Freshman backup point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright suffered a concussion against the Oregon Ducks last Wednesday, which kept him off the bench the next game against Oregon State.

Sean Miller said Thursday that Jackson-Cartwright has not practiced since suffering that concussion, which has thrown a fun name into the point guard rotation for this week.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

"We've also let Rondae (get reps) in case we get into foul trouble or an injury, he'd be that third guy," coach Miller said. "You always want to have three that can play that position because of an injury or foul trouble, and you don't want to get caught where you can't execute your normal system."

As shown in Friday's game against Oregon State, senior T.J. McConnell will be forced to play more minutes, with Gabe York as the replacement for him. That also forces Elliott Pitts to play more minutes than he's used to.

But let's be real. We all want to see what an Arizona offense would look like with Rondae at point.

"He's a clever passer," Miller said of RHJ's abilities as a point guard. "And he's somebody that's sure with the ball."

"It's great for him," York added about Hollis-Jefferson. "I think as a team too, having him be another option at the point guard position is amazing for us. Obviously at 6-7, he can probably dish it to people who me or T.J. can't really see over the seven-footer you know. Rondae might be able to do that. We saw it in practice yesterday and he did a great job. We played five-on-five. He played a little bit of point and he looked great out there."

"It was a little weird (to see that)," York admitted. "But at the end of the day, coach knows what he's doing and both me and T.J. thought it was a good idea as well, so he was good out there."

Please please please let Rondae play point guard Saturday.
