MORE CLOUDS AND WIND
Temperatures were way down from Monday's low 90s. Highs fell into the upper 70s, even a bit cooler than I had expected. Winds were are on the increase in mountain and desert areas as the wholesale replacement of warm air with cool air was underway. Two low pressure systems are going to bring temperatures down a little further for Thursday and Friday. The first low is currently west of San Diego and is forecast to start the process late tomorrow and on Thursday. Winds will pick up in the mountains with westerly gusts to 60 MPH. Then, late Thursday and Friday a different wave of low pressure will move in from the northwest bringing a slight chance for some shower activity in the mountains. I have indicated a 20% chance for light showers in the mountains, and a 30% probability in the Kern River Valley and north into the Sierra. Friday will be the coolest day with South Valley highs in the upper 60s to near 70. Highs in the mountains will only be about 50.
NICE WEEKEND
After the two disturbances move east and away by Saturday, some very nice weather will once again grace our region. Partly cloudy skies on Saturday will turn completely sunny and Sunday. Highs in the mid 70s Saturday should transition to the upper 70s and near 80 Sunday through next Thursday. Weak high pressure will extend into California.
MAY RAIN
Several global models are advertising a significant low pressure complex to form in the eastern Pacific and then move right over central and southern California by about the end of next week. There is enough evidence in the guidance for me to indicate a 10% chance for rain by a week from Friday. In addition to that, longer range models have shown a wet bias through the middle of May. It could be that this May delivers another wetter than normal month in our fairly wet rainy season (which runs through June).
