awsome gas mileage??
this weekend i took a trip to las vegas with a few of my cars getting us there. i was surprised to see my 1991 accord LX do the 287 mile trip (one way) on half a tank of gas there and half a tank back. not bad for a car with 175000 miles on it in my opinion. whats your opinions?

Re: awsome gas mileage??
yeah its about that. the tank is stoc and so is the rest of the car other than the radio. it was driven at around 70-80 mph there and around 60 mph average speed coming back due to traffic. we didnt drive fast because we had 8 cars in our fleet for the trip. 5 cars were mine. i know that the ac was even used in the accord off and on going and coming so not too bad huh? whats your car getting?

Re: awsome gas mileage??
Before I took my 96 Ex F22B2 off the road I was usually getting between 700-800km/tank. Commuting to and from work, it was pretty much all highway kms. 250,385km on the odometer.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
around town we get that but i'm thinking the ac and the hills and the car being fully loaded with people and luggage is why we didnt see more mileage. and maybe the miles on the car also contributed to it.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
I have a stock 2.2 in my 94 accord lx, and it gets about 24-25, but i drive very fast sometimes coming home from work (like 90 or more) in places where i can. I have gotten about 32 or so on a long road trip. I am going to do the EGR chamber cleaning soon and see if that helps. I am not new to Hondas, but now that I bought my wife a new MDX, i took this one over and customized it as my daily driver. I have a bagged Sonoma that I used to drive, but it's kind of a utility/occasional use truck now. I never thought about the EGR ports clogging until i saw it on this site. that and a valve adjustment (that has never been done) should help the mpg's a lot.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
Considering you don't give any values for MPG, but just "half a tank" it's kinda bad math. On the high side however, I was able to get an actual calculated 36mpg in my 97 Accord.
The tank if I recall is ~17 gallons completely filled up for a 96/97 (probably 94/95 as well) and the light comes on around 14/15

Re: awsome gas mileage??
the valve lash, iacv fast idle valve, egr ports and all the rest of the tune up stuff will help. as will tire pressure. i havent done it yet but i'm also going to nitrogen in my tires. i'm waiting to put a data logger on the cars to see how much fuel mileage improvements actually do but i need my base fuel mileage first. i wanna be able to actually show people what a tune up does for their fuel mileage as part of my services here

Re: awsome gas mileage??
the car has relatively new plugs, air filter, new dist. cap and rotor, new wires and runs great with 207k. as far as the IACV goes, are you saying it should be cleaned or what? I try to keep my tires up to pressure, and decided against nitrogen since that will probably cost the same as what I'd save in fuel, especially if i ever have a problem with a tire and lose pressure and need more nitrogen. Seems to me like it would be very inconvenient to maintain N2 in your tires. To me, the convenience of being able to fill my own tires with my compressor (and a gas that is already at my home) is worth the small loss in mileage.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
yeah i havent looked at the gas receipts yet but probably because i paid for gas in all 5 of my cars there and back. i probably paid for 400 bucks of gas. the lincoln LS and F350 V-10 arent too kind at the gas pumps. ball park is good for me right this second LOL

yep. i like em best parked looking cool. actually, i bought the LS for trips to vegas since i have family there and we go alot. i bought the F350 because i always wanted one and now i could afford it since its a gas guzzler and the origional owner didnt want to keep it. i got it cheap!! with 48000 miles. i just didnt plan on everyone going to vegas this weekend or taking all my cars with the others in our group.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
I would love to see the actual gas purchases and odometer readings (several in a row would be good, variations in filler shut off can make a big difference for a single tank of gas) for those claiming 30+ in town. I'm sorry, but I'm a bit skeptical of mileage that good. If it is true, I need to do some more work on my CB7's/CB9 (or REALLY be easy on the accelerator!).

Re: awsome gas mileage??
Guys:
I have 98 Accord LX 4 Cyl, 175K miles and I'm only getting 240 miles on 15g of tank. I didnt used K&N filter nor replace fuel filter since I couldnt find where it is. I already have my mechanic tuned it up, replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor and still about getting about 15 mpg on combined highway and city.
Any suggestions? Thank You.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
Drove from Sacramento to Thousand Oaks on a one day road trip. I got my car tune up and air up to specs. The only thing in the car worth mentioning were myself and a full tank of gas. I beleive I got 489 miles on that trip and yes I ran till the tank went dry (empty) and beyond burning fumes. I got to the grape vine and coasted down North Bound to the nearest gas station. My causin swears he go 500 miles on his 93 acura manual tranny.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
My 95 EX coupe gets $hitty fuel economy. I get about 240 miles out of a full tank. I've got new plugs, wires, Seafoamed the fuel system and crankcase. Meh, my car sucks it hard. Tires are fine, had the timing done and tranny flushed 3 times. Also, had the throttle cable re-adjusted since it was off a little. Still crappy.

Re: awsome gas mileage??
it's been too long to recall the mileage I used to get in the Accord, I think it was around mid 20's though.
Some years ago I went to a meet with some other local Honda guys and got 48.7mpg in my 92 Civic with a 98 D16Y8 and that wasn't the first time I got that kind of mileage, that car likes 55-60mph. When we went to WI in that car and driving ~75mph I only got around 42mpg. That's why I still drive that car daily, even with beating on it and doing all city driving I get consistent 34mpg. Better than the SVT that gets 22mpg city and 27mpg highway.

There's plenty of suggestion in the thread. Getting good quality parts helps, random offbrand or eBay parts are not going to be helpful.
*Edit*
A quick list
- sparkplugs
- wires
- air filter
- tires
- tire pressure
- alignment
- egr valves
- fuel filter
- O2 sensors
- catalytic converter
- no fat chicks
- fresh oil
- fresh tranny fluid
- distributor
- TB
- IACV
- FITV
- check brakes (not dragging)
- accelerate slowly
- shift ~3k rpms
- brake slowly and coast into stoplights
