Welcome to Sonic Pi Weekly #6

Wow, what an exciting week for Sonic Pi! Not only was v2.3.0 codename "Bitcrushed" released, the new quad-core Raspberry Pi 2 was announced! In fact, v2.3.0 of Sonic Pi is already installed on the latest RPi 2-ready Raspbian image so new users are all set to go. v2.3.0 is a nice solid improvement and comes packed with a number of new exciting FX and utility functions to improve your algorithmic compositions.

For full details of the changes in v2.3.0 see: https://github.com/samaaron/sonic-pi/releases/tag/v2.3.0

All the hard work that was put into optimising Sonic Pi for the original Raspberry Pi makes for an extremely smooth experience on the RPi 2. Also, Sonic Pi was written to take advantage of multiple cores where available which means that all of the 4 cores on the RPi 2 will be used to create dramatic performance increases. For example, playing the example "Time Machine" on a B+ uses around 85-95% CPU but on a RPi 2 it uses just 5-12% CPU. This gives us lots more room for more synths, FX and samples. Fun times ahead!

Core team member Xavier Riley has written a rather nice article about applying some of Euclid's ideas to Sonic Pi to create beautiful rhythmical patterns. This work will be part of v2.4.0 and is extremely joyful to play with.

Finally, here's a taste of the future of Sonic Pi. This is a live coded performance using Overtone (Sonic Pi's big brother) by Core Team member Joseph Wilk. I personally found it truly inspiring.
