I can't seem to find this game anywhere. Computer puzzle game, almost certainly before 1987 but I don't remember what computer type so it could have been DOS, Apple, or anything else from that time.

You were given a picture of a square that had holes and lines, your task was to create an assembly line to recreate using a series of machines. The three machine types you could add to the assembly line included one that turned the image, one that punched anywhere from 1 to 3 holes in the image, and one that painted different size lines. You had to put the machines in the right order and give each the right instructions to produce the object that matched the target.

Sound familiar to anyone? I've tried every search I could think of and I can't find it.

That my friend is a pretty weak category of puzzle.

It was an early kids game. What would you categorize it as?

Oh, it is what it is, I just can't imagine it being any fun.

You mean "program an assembly line" is a boring idea for a puzzle?

I never got around to figuring out what it is actually called, but this software is apparently an Apple II title that can be found on FTP mirrors as "factory.dsk".

Weird thing is, I can't remember where I first heard about it...there are a couple internet topics out there of people looking for it, but I have no idea why I knew immediately that they were talking about the same game. I also feel like I have visual memory of what it looks like in motion, even though I'm fairly certain I've never even seen a screenshot of the game.

The brain is such an unreliable witness..
