Who is Vanessa?

I am an Assemblies of God Ordained Minister working as an US Missionary with Chi Alpha Campus Ministry.

My story started in Talala, OK where I grew up. I attended Oologah Assembly of God my entire life. I fell in love with God at a young age. I wanted everyone else to have a relationship with my Lord. In middle and high school my dad had to get the old van from the church that was not being used so we would have enough room for all my friends that went to church with me.

I attended college at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. For my senior CBC 3 month internship I worked at the Los Angeles Dream Center with their Teen Discipleship Boys Home.

After college I did a year internship with University of Louisiana Chi Alpha. After I support raised for a year, and am now on staff at University of Tulsa Chi Alpha and Tulsa Community College. I also serve as the OK Chi Alpha Director's assistant.

God placed me in Chi Alpha Ministry because it is a perfect fit. I love God, and want others to feel and know his love for them. I truly enjoy getting to show God's love to college students every day, watch them develop a heart for Him, and watch them show others His love.

What is Chi Alpha?

Our name comes from a combination of the Greek letters Chi(X) Alpha(A) which are the first letters of a phrase used by the Apostle Paul, Christou Apostoloi. Translated this means Christ's ambassadors or sent ones. This name reminds us of the commitment we've made and our responsibility to share Jesus with others.

We are a Spirit-empowered, diverse community of believers on university campuses, declaring in word and lifestyle our faith in Jesus Christ, equipped to fulfill our purpose in God's global plan.

We reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through spirit-filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship and mission to transform the university, the marketplace and the world.

Why do we need Chi Alpha?

"Chi Alpha is a family on campus I can get connected with on a daily bases ... an accountability system for me. It helps me keep on track with my relationship with God, and even with my discipline in classes, and stuff like that ... We get to grow closer together, and closer to God."

-TU Student Leader, Mary

"With Chi Alpha I have an outlet where I get with like minded people to reach them for Christ, as well as develop my leadership skills."

-TU Student Leader, Andrew

"Chi Alpha is like my family here at school. People that I know will love me and support me ... encourage me to keep searching God and loving Jesus."

-TU Student, Janey

"Chi Alpha is a home away from home. Sanctuary away from campus ... I really enjoy spending time with the people in Chi Alpha. They are very passionate, and love God with all their heart. I think it makes me a better person to be around everyone that is in Chi Alpha. "

-TU Student, Jonathan
