Alpha Harding Smelser

Alpha Harding Smelser of Adamsville, Tennessee was born September 13, 1920, to the late Montie Evett and Lillie Belle Grissom Smelser in Franklin County, Alabama. He was united in marriage to Lou Marie Gilchrist on December 15, 1945.
Mr. Smelser departed this life on February 26, 2015 at the age of 94 Years, 5 Months, 13 Days. Survivors are his five children: three daughters, Jodie Plunk of Stantonville, TN, Cindy Duren and husband David of Waynesboro, TN, Georgie Rhein and husband Dennis of Chesnee, SC; two sons, Dr. Mike Smelser of Selmer, TN, Matt Smelser and wife Pat of Adamsville, TN; three grandchildren, two great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Smelser was preceded in death by five sisters, Lova Warhurst, Aberdeen Daniel, Christine Allen, Murzie Parrish, Racine Meek; one brother, Chester Smelser.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Mr. Smelser's World War II service, donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, www.fisherhouse.org, that supports America's military. Call 888-294-8560 for information to make donations in lieu of flowers.
Private family services will be held.
