Mrs. Margaret Rogers, 83, died on March 4, 2015 at We Care Hospice in Moss Point, Mississippi. Margaret Rogers, known as Sandy to many of her friends and family, was a native of Matador Texas. She moved to Lubbock, Texas where she finished High School at Lubbock Senior High School in 1949 and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in 1954. Margaret joined the Air Force in 1958 and received her commission as a Second Lieutenant. She was stationed in San Antonio, Texas for most of her time in the military except for a brief stint in Rome. While she was in the Air Force, she met and married fellow Air Force officer, James W. Rogers. They lived in Oklahoma for several years before moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1971. Margaret worked at both the Biloxi and Gulfport Veteran’s Administration in the Social Work Service. She retired from the VA in 1997. Margaret married Walter W. Steen in December of 1998. After her retirement, she enjoyed travel in the western United States with her husband Walter. She volunteered her time in a variety of activities. She was also a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). While living on the Gulf Coast, Margaret was an active member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church of Gulfport. She volunteered at the Feed My Sheep program and was a longtime advocate of this very important program. Margaret was predeceased by James W. Rogers and mother Edith Sanders. She is survived by her husband, Walter W. Steen; daughters, Susan West and Sylvia Rogers; brother, Thomas Sanders; niece, Iwalani Sanders of Hawaii and nephew, Marc Sanders of San Francisco, California. Margaret Rogers had great zeal and lived her life in a meaningful way. She was a caring and loving mother of her two daughters and a loving spouse. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. A Private memorial service will be held for friends and family at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Feed My Sheep and the First Christian Church of Gulfport, Mississippi. A note of gratitude goes out to We Care Hospice for their wonderful care in the last few weeks of her life. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
