here are my talking heads from the amazing mario cars 2: 64, which you should play now. they are yes inspired by the ugly heads from hotline miami
…No. Not any more. Mario Cars 2: 64 was finished. It was already fading away, I could feel it go - dropping half remembered sentences and imagery in its big, clumsy, dumb, website breaking wake. It was over.
I blearily bring up the calendar at the bottom right of the screen, just like I had before it all. It said, December 4th.
“I can’t believe it’s Decemeber 4th,” I say, because really though, what. how. this was meant to be a 48 hour thing, I had other things I wanted to do, what had I even spent so long even doing.
A masterpiece, says the Ego. You helped to bring about beauty, as beauty is truth, and truth is Mario Cars 2: 64.
A terrible sin, says the God. You corrupted something pure, and it wasn’t even that good I mean people were getting stuck in leve-
“A masterpiece, eh?” I say, fully capable of believing what could only be true since I'd apparently spent a whole goddamn week of my finite life on it.
“Nice…” I conclude, dragging the MC2 folder to a place I never go, one with all my old projects, a place I’m too afraid to look.
“Nice.”
THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING MARIO CARS 2 DOT TUMBLR DOT COM

MC2: 64 was made in about a week by me (pixelatedcrown/Chelsea Saunders!) (dev blog here) with help from KC Green (talking head art) and the Mario Cars 2 Tune Crew; Riki Tsuji, RJ Lake, Matt Martin and Vondell Swain (listen to the OST here)

lemme tell you the music I’ve heard is Something Else this is gonna be a good thing - as soon as the tracks’re done I’ll put em in and then… Mario Cars 2: 64 will be done.
took some screenshots of the first and second tracks for the title screen, you can have em
babyionian-deactivated20200611 asked: does this mean mario cars 3 is gonna be an oculus game
look I’m not even going to lie and say I haven’t thought about it and also laughed about it because I have and the answer to your question is “god, I really hope so,”
As I sit here, cleaning a giant red 64 swiped from a screenshot of the opening to Mario Kart 64, making it pixel perfect and ready to be displayed on the title screen of Mario Cars 2: 64, a thought crosses my mind.
“lol what am I doing tho”
A week has gone into what’ll be written off as “that silly mario kart game”, which is 100% justifiable as that’s exactly what it is, but… why?
Mario Cars, the first one, was a milestone for me. It was terrible, and I knew that, liked that about it even, but at the same time I MADE it, from start to finish, and it would load up on your computer screen and make noise and move and I DID that, that was me. I could make a game, using the word “game” extremely loosely. I’d Made A Game.
Mario Cars 2: 64 is that again, but further. MC2 is me going through the same motions as MC1 but at a level I’d never thought possible back then. It’s still BAD, but it’s a more developed bad, and that’s good. It almost looks like a game if you squint and look away and play a different game. And in comparison to MC1 it’s at a whole ‘nother level.
Mario Cars… Is something that’s only meant to happen when I feel like I’ve levelled up I think. Once MC2 is done I’m going to abandon it completely, like MC1, just step away and never play it again.
If you’ve been here since MC1; that’s beautiful. Mario Cars is for you, and that’s a terrible curse, and I hope you stick around for every one (and I guess the things I make in-between).
for anyone who hasn’t played mario cars 1 (????????????) here’s a brand new let’s play that’ll bring you up to speed
Day Six saw v little in the way of mario cars work but today, Day Seven, is seeing me p much finish it completely. All the levels are in and once I get the music Mario Cars 2: 64 will be ready. But… are you?????????
jump status: success. even after a particularly messy jump an ai car will still manage to wheel itself back onto the track below and carry on. my smart, beautiful, talented sons.
