MOBIUS MEMBER FROM 1988 - 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we report the death of our colleague Tom Plsek.  Tom first performed with Mobius in 1983 in Orpheus, playing his trombone on the bank of Fort Point Channel to create an aural cacophony with Sound/Image/Events as audiences rode in a boat across the River Styx.  He became a member of Mobius Artists Group in 1988 and went on to regularly collaborate and perform with other group members as well as artists in the greater Boston community.  Memorable performances include his many concerts with Boston musicians, his collaborations with dancer Marjorie (Jorie) Morgan, a series about ravens with Joanne Rice, and so many, many other performances.

In the words of Mobius Artists Group member Ellen Godena:

"Tom was such a kind and humble human being. He was an inventive and skilled musician, improvisor, and teacher. Such a joy to perform with. Such a joy to watch!

I think what I loved most of all about him was the wonder and awe with which he approached the world. So few people can approach life that way and just being near him, he spread that to others. He was really a profound human being, and I will miss his presence and the love that he emitted into the world." We are not alone in sharing her sentiments.  Tom will be sorely missed by the many people who knew him around the world.

NEWS

Mobius Artist Group mourns the loss of our cherished friend and Board Member, Jerry L. Johnson.

As a tenured professor at Salem State University, he pursued collaborative generosity and creative excellence through groundbreaking scholarship.
His pioneering work pushed creative boundaries and brought diverse perspectives together. Working on regional and national productions from Times Square to the Contemporary American Theater Festival, Jerry and his productions won countless awards.

A passion for discovery took him all over the world as an intrepid traveler constantly seeking emerging artistic works and cultural experiences in new places. Whether attending pioneering theatrical productions or visiting museums and landmarks, diverse perspectives brought tremendous knowledge and joy from these experiences.

His passing at 47 cuts deeply. As an artist who continually challenged conventions, he motivated countless others through boundary-pushing designs and inquisitive spirit. Thoughtful consideration shaped passionate sharing of thoughts on theatre, art, education and collaboration. An uncanny ability brought out creative bests in others through supportive teamwork. An indelible mark was left and he will be dearly missed.

Mobius values innovation, vulnerability, artistic development, and non-hierarchical relationships of mutual respect among our members.
