Thairo Estrada was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Mets due to tightness in his left hamstring.

The 28-year-old infielder tried to talk his way into staying in the game, so hopefully the injury isn’t that serious. The Giants should provide an update on his status after the game, but it sounds like Estrada should be considered day-to-day.

Francisco Lindor went 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBI as the Mets topped the Giants 8-2 on Wednesday.

The homers came off Sean Hjelle in the third and Mitch White in the ninth. The slumping Lindor raised his OPS from .538 to .652 today. At .206, it’s also the first time this season he’s boasted an average at or above the Mendoza Line.

Even though the Mets had a six-run lead, a frustrated Sean Manaea was lifted after 4 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday against the Giants.

Manaea was inefficient in walking four and throwing 101 pitches today, but considering that he struck out the final man he faced, it seemed like he ought to have been given a chance to go for the win. And if managers simply don’t care about that kind of thing any longer, then why should any of us? Manaea has a 3.33 ERA in his five starts this season. The Mets are 3-2 when he pitches, but his record is 1-1.

Starting for the first time in six games, Tyrone Taylor delivered a homer and a two-run double against the Giants on Wednesday.

We took issue with the Mets starting Joey Wendle over Taylor last night, and this kind of thing is why. Taylor is a little short of being a quality regular, but not by much. He’s hitting .327/.358/.510 in 54 plate appearances this season.

Tyler Fitzgerald hit his first homer of the year Wednesday against the Mets.

The 381-foot homer accounted for the first earned run allowed this year by breakout Mets reliever Reed Garrett. Playing against lefties, Fitzgerald has hit .269/.321/.538 in his 28 plate appearances this season. An expanded role still doesn’t seem likely, but he does offer versatility if injuries strike.
Nolan Jones

COL Left Fielder #22

Nolan Jones (back) remains out of the Rockies’ starting lineup for Wednesday’s battle against the Padres.

The 25-year-old outfielder was pulled from Tuesday’s contest due to stiffness in his back. He’s considered day-to-day. Jake Cave will start in his place in left field and bat eighth against Padres’ knuckleballer Matt Waldron.

Marlins optioned C Jhonny Pereda to Triple-A Jacksonville.

The 28-year-old backstop didn’t see much action during his brief stint with the Marlins, going 0-for-5 with one strikeout in his three appearances. He’ll continue to serve as excess catching depth at the Triple-A level.

Marlins activated C Christian Bethancourt from the 10-day injured list.

The 32-year-old backstop has been sidelined four nearly two weeks due to illness. He’s off to a miserable start at the plate this season, going 0-for-23 with a 6/1 K/BB ratio over his first 11 ballgames. Jhonny Pereda was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move on Wednesday.

COL Left Fielder #15

Rockies recalled INF/OF Hunter Goodman from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Goodman, 24, was off to a nice start at Triple-A — slashing .298/.352/.691 with seven homers and 22 RBI in his first 20 ballgames. The Rockies are hoping that he can carry over that performance and inject some life into a struggling offense. Michael Toglia was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Rockies optioned 1B/OF Michael Toglia to Triple-A Albuquerque.

It’s really saying something that Toglia can’t even find a regular role with the Rockies while Kris Bryant (back) is on the injured list. Not only could he not crack the lineup, he’s now being sent down to Triple-A due to his early-season struggles. The 25-year-old was slashing a woeful .106/.143/.362 with four homers, eight RBI and a 20/1 K/BB ratio in 49 plate appearances. Talk about all or nothing.
