Dance
We believe in molding well-rounded, independent, dance artists. Students are required to learn and appreciate the classical and codified techniques of Ballet and Modern Dance throughout their time at KSCP (KIPP Sharpstown College Prep). We also explore various styles, such as jazz, hip-hop, african, tap, ballroom, lyrical, and contemporary dance. All dance students will be required to explore dance improvisation and dance composition so that they may choreograph their own dance works to showcase. Students will also be given opportunities to learn from the masters of Houston Ballet, learn choreography from famous artists like Micah Webb and Dominic Brown, perform off campus (such as HBU and the House of Blues), and take field trips to view professional dance performances (such as the Houston MET Dance company and the Houston Ballet). Selected students will be given the opportunity to compete and go to dance conventions in the 8th grade based on grades, talent, technique, and professionalism. Here at KSCP, we aim to prepare dance students to audition and attend prestigious dance programs like High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
