Roger Ratliff

Roger Dare Ratliff, 86, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 02, 2015 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born September 21, 1928 in Summers County he was the son of the late Garnett B. "Bulldog" Ratliff Sr. and Effie Fern Samples Ratliff. He was a member of the Beech Run Baptist Church, employee of the Kroger Co. until his retirement as Head Grocery Clerk after 45 ½ years of service. Roger proudly served his country in United States Army as part of the Military Police with his main duty station being in Japan. An avid hunter and fisherman he loved spending time by the river enjoying God's creation.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Wayne Ratliff; two daughters, Teresa Carol Ratliff and Debbie Ann Ratliff and two brothers, Don Glen Ratliff and Mark Allen "Little Bulldog" Ratliff.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee Jones Ratliff of Hinton; one step-son, Robert Butler and wife Patricia of Richmond, VA; one sister, Nancy Moten Kast of Hinton; four brothers, Billie Ray Ratliff and wife Jenny of Brooks, Rev. Bobbie Rex Ratliff and wife Jeanie of Union, Garnett "Bucky" Ratliff Jr. and wife Carolyn of Covington, VA and Jerry Reed Ratliff and wife Jane of Covington, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Sonny Angell and Roger's brother, Rev. Bobbie Rex Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery at Marie Military Graveside Honors. Friends may call from noon until service time on Friday at the Funeral Parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
