ABOUT US

Here at Burned Children Recovery Foundation, we are committed to a single goal; we are a national recovery agency that has provided Emotional Support and Financial Aid to Burned Children and their Families since 1989.Explore our website to learn more about all that we’re doing to make a change. We believe every burned child should have an opportunity to heal from both physical and emotional injuries. Our foundation strives to offer these children from all socio economical backgrounds these opportunities. With your financial assistance and support we are able to bring children (and family members) to Phoenix House for immediate support as well as provide children a Camp experience (Camp Phoenix) to meet other children and engage in meaningful learning and friendship environment.

We provide counseling and financial aid to the family and also offer our two recovery programs to the children and their family. Phoenix House is a 10 bed recovery center for recluse and high trauma children struggling in their recovery. Camp Phoenix is our National Burned Children's Recovery Camp for burned children. Attending both programs is an important step to the recovery of the child.

Burns are one of the most painful injuries to recover from. We offer support and encouragement during and after hospitalization. When does the healing start? Reconstructive surgery will play a role in the child's overall post burn restoration process, but it is the area on the body affected and the percentage of total burned tissue that will play the largest role in how fast they will recover.

Many children are turned away because of the lack of funding, please consider supporting our deserving children by donating to BCRF.

Support from Experienced Survivors

Unique support from experienced burn survivors who understand the trauma the children are going through. The credibility of having walked in their shoes helps the children to trust and feel comfortable asking questions and seek support and understanding in dealing with personal difficulties. This support helps the children through the transition from victim to a survivor.

Building a Better Tomorrow

Camp Phoenix provides an opportunity for children recovering from burn injuries to meet other children who share similar feelings and experiences. The weeklong camp gives these children temporary freedom from the everyday frustrations of being burned, a chance to share their stories and to bond with each other. It’s a week full of friendship, sharing, and activities that provide physical and emotional challenges to invoke a feeling of accomplishment no matter how small. Campers and adult burn survivors share their stories and emotions, especially shame and fear, about their recovery. The shame will remain forever, however the fears can be turned into challenges with support of other survivors and by having a new outlook on life. They become a valuable member of the Phoenix family, which helps the children feel more comfortable and in control of their anxieties and panic when receiving negative reactions or when asked what has happened. Most of all, camp is a place to have fun, learn new things, find acceptance and build self esteem.
