Info/History

The Mc Cartin School of Irish Dancing, a community based Irish Dancing School is located in the Ballinamore and Drumreilly area of South Leitrim, Ireland. Dance director Karl Mc Cartin A.D.C.R.N is a registered teacher and adjudicator with the renowned worldwide dance organisation Cumann Rince Náisiúnta.

Karl began dancing at the age of eight with the Dodd-Prior School of Irish Dancing in Ballinamore and enjoyed a very successful career on the competitive circuit winning many awards and titles.

The Mc Cartin School of Irish Dancing offerers classes to pupils from across South Leitrim and Cavan. Pupils from the Mc Cartin S.D. have excelled in competition and have danced competitively across Ireland, The UK, Europe and America. Pupils are prepared across five grades in their solo competition and classes are organised according to the grade of the pupil. While Solo competition is an important aspect of the Mc Cartin S.D. great pride is taken in preparing Ceili Teams for the Ceili Championship competitions within CRN. The Mc Cartin pupils have taken many awards for their Ceili Teams and are prepared with precision for national and international competition.

While competition is an important element in the composition of the class, the overall philosophy is one of participation. With this in mind the class has a highly experienced performance element and performs on a regular basis at corporate events, weddings, local festivals and parades.  The Mc Cartin S.D.   have had the immense honor of performing at the New York St Patrick’s Day Festival, where they were guests of the Leitrim Association in New York.

The Mc Cartin School of Irish Dancing looks forward to another busy year, where fun, friendship and delight are incorporated into Irish Dancing.
